Huawei

The good old say of barking dogs seldom bite stands in the current market.  I read this article “The unintended consequences of Trump’s ban on Huawei are starting to appear” claiming that now Huawei’s phone is going to be more vulnerable because it is banned from using Android. And I almost fell off my chair laughing.

You have to laugh when companies, particularly Google, Facebook, Amazon,..etc. act like they give a damn about your privacy or security.  They exist because they invade your privacy and care less about your security. But what they really mean is that now someone else gets to do it.   That means they will loose money.

What is happening to China today is almost exactly what happened to Japan some 30-40 years ago and what is going to happen to India next as well.  Rather than being able to compete in the “free markets” at the first sign on defeat, US corporation runs to the government, the same people they always wanted less of.  They are all about smaller government, less regulation, no interference, until they need money from the tax payer and protection from the government.

What is amazing and should be telling to the tax payer is how the government is willing to fight and go to war of Apple and Google, the people who actually sent your job to China, the same country they want to go to war with.  But yet the government never fought anyone to keep your job at home, despite all this tariff shenanigans.  These are not to get jobs back, these are to protect private companies business in the in name of national security of course.

It is short sighted and naive to think that China is able to make a phone that is embarrassing to Apple all over the world, developing 5G technology that is better than all others but somehow are not able to duplicate the software of the hardware, i.e. integrated circuits.  Just like everything else in any emerging economy, China will buy it until it is cheaper to make in China.  Tariffs or no tariffs, that day is not that far in the future.
